He was on the FBI’s “Agitator Index” as a “key militant leader.”

He was the Deputy chairman of the National BPP.

A civil lawsuit regarding his death filed in 1970 was settled in 1982 for $1.85 million.

He coined the term “rainbow coalition” later popularized by Rev. Jesse Jackson with his Rainbow coalition.

He was in line for the BPP’s Central Committee’s Chief of Staff before his assassination.
