“Year of Africa”

In 1960, 17 African nations gained independence from colonial rule, marking a significant turning point in global Black history. This year is often called the “Year of Africa” because countries like Nigeria, Senegal, Madagascar, and the Democratic Republic of Congo broke free from European control, mainly from France, Belgium, and Britain.
