C.L. Dellums

C.L. Dellums 1900 to 1989 was a porter, union, civil rights, and civic leader. He co-founded the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters in 1937, the first labor union established and led by black folks. He was the founding President of the NAACP West Coast Region. He was also the uncle of Ron Dellums.

Tommie Smith

Tommie Smith, a sprinter in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico protested racial discrimination during the awards ceremony by bowing his head and raising his black gloves fist in a black power salute during the playing of the U.S. National Anthem.
