Thulani Davis

Thulani Davis born in 1949 is a professor, playwright, novelist, screenwriter, writer and poet. In 1992 she was the first woman to be awarded a Grammy for album notes for Aretha Franklin, Queen of Soul–The Atlantic Recording. She also wrote June Jordan’s obituary in the Village Voice.

Rose Morgan

Rose Morgan born in 1912, died in 2008. In 1942 she owned the largest black beauty parlor in the U.S. In 1965 she was one of the founders of New York’s only black-owned commercial bank, the Freedom National Bank. Her marriage to boxer Joe Louis was annulled.

Maxine Waters

Maxine Waters born 8/15/38. Served in the House of Representatives to Congress representing California since 1991. Chaired the Congressional Black Caucus from 1997 to 1999. Served in the California Assembly from 1976 to 1990.
