Yolande Cornelia “Nikki” Giovanni, Jr. is a black poet and activist, who has won numerous awards, including the Langston Hughes Medal, the NAACP Image Award, and a Grammy Award for her poetry album, The Nikki Giovanni Poetry Collection; 2002.
