Kassim Omar, 29, Black trans woman who fled to Columbus, OHio in 2015 as a refugee from Somalia (by way of Kenya) to escape anti-LGBTQ+ harassment and violence. She was shot in 2022 by two teenagers who had been harassing her due to her gender identity and sexuality. She survived and was paralyzed and confined to a nursing home she succumbed to her injuries and died on September 6, 2024.
