Who is the most confident person you know? I am the most confident person I know. That confidence had to be developed. Also I know myself better than I know anyone else. So I am only guessing at their confidence level. Appearances can be deceiving.

What activities do you lose yourself in? Reading.

What movies or TV series have you watched more than 5 times? Purple Rain.

Are you superstitious? Not superstitious per se but I do avoid black cats and breaking mirrors and if I spill salt I do take a pinch and toss it over my left shoulder.

Write a letter to your 100-year-old self. Akilah, congratulations to making it to 100 and in great health. So glad you prioritized self-love and self-care.

Where would you go on a shopping spree? I would not leave my home for shopping, online only.

What is your middle name? Does it carry any special meaning/significance? I don’t have a middle name, Akilah Monifa is my full government name. My birth middle name however is Ann. My first and middle birth names are the same as my maternal grandmother.

What is the last thing you learned? That ground flaxseed and flaxseed meal are the same thing. I had a recipe for apple spiced muffin that used flaxseed meal.

What is one question you hate to be asked? Explain. I hate to be asked who won a sporting event when I mention I went to a game. Pedestrian and automatic question. If they were really interested they would have found out.

How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success? I didn’t get into an AI workshop in New York that I applied for, I thought a failure, but that set me up for success, I got into two workshops at the Poynter Institute that served me well and I would not […]
