How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success?

I didn’t get into an AI workshop in New York that I applied for, I thought a failure, but that set me up for success, I got into two workshops at the Poynter Institute that served me well and I would not have have time for if I had gotten into the AI workshop.
